Dougherty County Public Library provides resources to those who, due to blindness or physical handicap, cannot read traditional books or magazines. Resources include a variety of assistive technologies available for those who qualify.
CCTV- Closed Caption Television: Closed captioning allows individuals with some sight to put an item (book, magazine, letter, recipe, prescription, picture, etc) under a camera that displays it on a screen in a larger format. The CCTV can magnify up to 60 times and can be changed from black letters on white, and white letters on black to accomodate different eye conditions and diseases.
Reading Edge: Reading Edge allows individuals with no vision to place a typed item on the scanner and have it read aloud. Different voices can be selected for the reading.
Magnifiers: A lighted magnifiying glass is available.
